CORAL CALCIUM, VITAMIN D & Women's Health

Better breast health and reduced hip fractures reported

The latest research shows that vitamin D and calcium are critical nutrients for women's health.

In particular, new studies shed light on the healthy benefits of this nutritional combination for maintaining reproductive health and reducing risk of hip fractures as women age. The Women's Health Initiative, from the National Institutes of Health, found women using calcium-vitamin D supplements experienced Òa small but significant 1 percent higher hip bone density for those taking calcium combined with vitamin D compared to those taking placebo.Ó Furthermore, the study reported: ÒWomen who consistently took the full supplement dose experienced a significant 29 percent decrease in hip fracture. Women older than 60 had a significant 21 percent reduction in hip fracture.Ó A study published in August 2006 in Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers and Prevention says that experimental studies have shown the anti-carcinogenic effects of this nutrient combination. The vitamin-mineral combo seems to help maintain normal cell division and proliferation; at all times, healthy cells progress naturally to death. There's more evidence, say these researchers from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York. We've long known from scientific studies that Òhigh sunlight exposure, presumably reflecting vitamin D synthesis in the skin, has been associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer,Ó they add. Looking at two additional studies, MSNBC, Reuters and Associated Press reported this year, ÒWomen who get lots of vitamin D are less likely to develop breast cancer.

ÒHigh levels of vitamin D trans translated to a 50 percent lower risk of breast cancer,

one study found. Even modestly higher levels resulted in 10 percent less risk, which would translate to 20,000 fewer cases a year if it were true of all American women. ÒA second study, by Canadian researchers, found that women who spent time outdoors or got a lot of vitamin D from their diets or supplementsÑ especially as teensÑwere 25 percent to 45 percent less likely to develop breast cancer than women with less of the nutrient.Ó All of this suggests that calcium and vitamin D are two of women's best nutritional friends.

HOW CORAL HELPS

We suggest a safe whole food form of calcium. Experts such as Dr. James Chappell and the noted medical doctor Bruce Halstead have recommended coral minerals. Chappell, a contributor to The Doctors' Prescription for Healthy Living, specifically recommends and endorses eco-safe, above sea- harvested coral rich in calcium and complexed with vitamin D for his patients' supplement needs. Studies show that that pre-digested organic coral supplies generous amounts of calcium together with more than 72 trace minerals necessary

or thought to be necessary to human health. The many interactions between minerals are extremely numerous and complex. The body's dependency on minerals is one of inter-relatedness, which is why foods that supply all trace minerals, such as whole grains, are thought of as being healthier than foods where the trace minerals have been milled or removed. Think of isolated calcium supplements as a processed food and coral as a whole food concentrate.

There are many great calcium supplements, but what makes coral minerals different is that they naturally supply your body with all of the trace minerals you require in a form that is so body friendly coral is actually a favorite bone graft material for orthopedic surgeons, and an entire literature has developed on this wonderful natural gift. From a living green viewpoint, the thing people love about coral minerals is that they are doing something great for the environment. The above sea coral from Okinawa leaves living reefs completely alone. Nothing is disturbedÑand there's a real benefit to consumers too. With coral from above-sea deposits that are tens of thousands of years old, the mineral complexes are extremely pure and free or at least freer from modern pollution. _
