Although the ubiquitous term pH may appear to be part of the abstract lingo of the physical sciences, pH can be easily understood as an oxygen measurement system. The higher the pH number, the greater the oxygen content. FROM HEALTH TO DISEASE

All healthy humans begin life with most of the body fluids and tissues in a slightly alkaline state (high pH). Over time, in modern society, the body tissues and fluids often become acidic (low pH) from the food, drink, prescription drugs, pollution and stress that are absorbed on a daily basis. (Note: an exception to this is the blood, which keeps a consistent pH.) An alkaline (high pH/oxygen-rich) system is important because we are oxygen creatures. Oxygen is the most essential substance for human life. Humans can survive weeks without food and days without water, but only three minutes without oxygen. Naturopathic physicians believe that at least some 157 diseases are caused by an abnormally acidic/low pH system. In fact, almost every named and unnamed disease condition has one thing in common: higher than normal accumulation of acidic waste in the body. Decades ago, Dr. Otto Warburg, the only physician to ever win two Nobel prizes, proved that cancer cannot exist in an alkaline/ high pH environment. If acid is allowed to build up, that part of the body will become starved of oxygen and disease will not be far behind. It is easy to visualize the importance of not letting your body become oxygen starved. Just hold your breath until it becomes a bit uncomfortable and then try to resume breathing normally; don't take any deep catch-up breaths. Imagine your internal organs, trying to function without being able to take any catch-up breaths, day after day, month after month.

CORAL MINERALS FOR PROPER PH

Many substances (such as baking soda) can raise pH temporarily, but coral minerals can raise and maintain pH. (Coral calcium should probably be more accurately called coral minerals, because within the coral matrix is every mineral needed by the human body.) Coral minerals play a crucial role in alkalizing the bodily fluids and tissues. Coral minerals are known to be readily absorbable, because they have been previously digested by an animal (the coral polyp) and they are ionic (highly charged). Yuji Hirota and Takashi Sugisaki, of the Medical Preventive Group Laboratory in Japan, recently reported in Nutrition Research on their results using coral minerals to prevent colon cancer spread. The researchers discovered that although colon cancer cells often spread into the lungs (metastasis), when coral minerals are given, their spread is significantly inhibited. With coral minerals, there is an increase in activity of the body's natural killer (NK) cells, and the number of macrophages increases. This activation of NK cells and macrophages resulted in preventing the proliferation of cancer cells, they say. “But, also, it was found that the cancer cells with a significant growth rate at pH 6.5 (acid) continuously proliferated into the surrounding organs, but with the group taking coral calcium at a pH of 7.5 (alkaline), the cancer cells were individually scattered, along with inhibition of growth,” says James Chappell, D.C., N.D., author of The Miracle Elements: Fossilized Stony Coral Minerals, who is familiar with the study's results. “These results prove that alkaline pH plays a significant role in inhibiting the proliferation of cancer cells.” He adds, “Although more research should be done, it is obvious that fossilized stony coral minerals, with its high concentration of calcium and other elements, shifts the pH to alkaline and inhibits cancer growth by stimulating natural killer cells and macrophage production.”
