Is Coral A Mineral?

Coral is an ancient, living organic matter formed in semi-tropical seas by tiny animals called coral polyps. A piece of coral is usually made up of the former homes of many coral polyps. As one polyp dies, another builds its home upon the first. This occurs layer upon layer until a large mass, known as a “coral reef” is formed. From this, coral calcium can be obtained to produce many supplements. The benefits of coral calcium can improve the health of one’s body.

How is coral harvested?

Marine Coral (Below-Sea)

Although formed hundreds or thousands of years ago, coral is by no means a dead mineral. It is teeming with life and activity. Most coral minerals are “harvested” – scraped or dredged – from accumulated debris found in and around living coral reefs. This harvesting process is destructive to the reefs themselves, eliminating the places juvenile coral and other marine organisms use as shelter as they grow.

Most coral minerals today come from environmentally hazardous areas found under the sea, which are often contaminated from years of pollution.

Land-Based Coral (Above-Sea)

Coral LLC only offers coral minerals that are obtained from above-sea mines, which have been thrust upward, above sea level, to form coral islands. These up-swelling regions were caused by geological changes that took place many years ago. This coral has been purified by centuries of exposure to the energy-producing cosmic rays of the sun and has not been affected by underwater pollution.

Not all coral mineral products are not the same.

Many mineral products on the market today are not all-natural, and they do not come from nature. They come from a laboratory instead. Coral LLC’s products and supplements are made from pure coral minerals found in above-sea coral that provide more benefits of coral calcium compared to under the sea coral.  This is an all-natural source and does not harm the delicate marine ecosystem. That is why our label always reads “EcoSafe™.”
